Online Safety Policy for Supplementary Educational
Provision
1. Purpose
This policy outlines how Action Youth Boxing Intervention (AYBI) ensures that young
people, staff, and volunteers use digital technology safely during all aspects of the
supplementary educational provision. It aims to protect participants from online risks while
promoting positive and responsible use of digital tools to support learning.

2. Principles
 Safety First: Protect young people from online harm, abuse, exploitation, and
inappropriate content.
 Respect: Encourage responsible, respectful communication online.
 Education: Provide young people with knowledge and strategies to stay safe online.
 Accountability: Ensure staff, volunteers, and participants understand their roles in
maintaining online safety.

3. Scope
This policy applies to:
 All young people are engaged in the supplementary education programme.
 All staff, mentors, volunteers, and external providers working with AYBI.
 All online platforms, devices, and communication channels are used as part of the
programme.

4. Key Online Risks
Young people may be exposed to risks such as:
 Inappropriate content: harmful material, violence, extremism, pornography.
 Cyberbullying and harassment.
 Online grooming and exploitation.
 Fraud, scams, and misinformation.
 Privacy breaches: sharing personal information unsafely.

5. Expectations of Young People
 Use programme devices and online platforms responsibly and respectfully.
 Never share personal details (address, phone number, passwords) online.
 Report any uncomfortable or harmful online interaction immediately to a staff
member.
 Do not engage in bullying, trolling, or sharing inappropriate material.
 Use technology provided by the programme only for learning-related activities.

6. Expectations of Staff and Volunteers
 Ensure all online sessions (video calls, messaging groups, e-learning platforms) are
delivered securely.
 Use only approved platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom with password
protection, or other agreed systems).
 Maintain professional boundaries at all times; no private contact with young people
via personal accounts or devices.
 Report any safeguarding concerns promptly following AYBI’s Safeguarding Policy.
 Regularly review and monitor online activity where appropriate.

7. Parental/Carer Involvement
 Parents/carers will be informed about the platforms and tools used.
 Consent will be obtained for online sessions where necessary.
 Parents/carers are encouraged to monitor their child’s online activity and raise any
concerns with staff.

8. Safeguarding and Reporting
 Any online safety concern will be treated as a safeguarding matter.

 Concerns must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
immediately.
 Where appropriate, incidents may be escalated to external safeguarding agencies or
the police.

9. Education and Awareness
AYBI will provide guidance and workshops on online safety, including:
 Identifying risks online.
 Safe use of social media.
 Recognising and reporting harmful content.
 Building digital resilience and positive online behaviour.

10. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective, up to date with
legislation, and responsive to emerging risks.

Acknowledgement
All staff, volunteers, participants, and parents/carers must agree to follow this Online Safety
Policy is a condition of involvement in the supplementary education provision.
