1. Policy Statement
Action Youth Boxing Intervention Supplementary School (AYBI-SS) is
committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children,
young people, and vulnerable adults who engage in our programmes. We
recognise our duty of care and responsibility to provide a safe environment
where all are respected and protected from abuse, neglect, and harm.
We are guided by the following legislation and statutory guidance:

The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 (Prevent Duty)
2. Purpose and Scope
This policy sets out our roles and procedures for safeguarding children and
vulnerable adults. This policy is applicable to all AYBI-SS staff, coaches,
volunteers, trustees, and external contractors.
3. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

The DSL will manage all safeguarding and child protection matters, staff
training, and liaison with statutory agencies.
4. Safer Recruitment
We operate safer recruitment, which includes:
Enhanced DBS checks for all staff and volunteers
Verification of identity, qualifications, and employment history
Mandatory safeguarding declarations
Safeguarding statements in job advertisements
At least two references, one from the current employer

5. Staff Induction and Training
All staff receive a safeguarding induction on day one
Compulsory annual safeguarding and Prevent training
Two-yearly refresher training
All staff receive a copy of this safeguarding policy
6. Code of Behaviour
Staff and volunteers must:
Always maintain professional boundaries
Treat all children and young people with dignity and respect
Avoid one-to-one unsupervised or out of sight situations
Never use physical punishment or inappropriate communication
Pass on all concerns or disclosures immediately
7. Online Use and E-Safety
Online learning and communication should be via secure, school-
approved sites
Staff should not share personal contact details or social media
accounts
Parents/carers should be informed of all online activity
All devices should have appropriate filters and security settings

8. Recognising Signs of Abuse
Abuse can be:
Physical – bruising, unexplained injuries
Emotional – withdrawal, extreme behaviour
Sexual – inappropriate knowledge, STIs, and fear of a person
Neglect – hunger, poor hygiene, missed appointments
Staff should also be alert to:
Bullying or cyberbullying
Peer-on-peer abuse
Exploitation (CSE, county lines)
Radicalisation
Abuse of children with SEND
9. Reporting Procedures and Timelines
Any concern or disclosure must be reported to the DSL immediately
(within 1 hour).
A written safeguarding concern form must be completed on the
same day.
The DSL will assess and make a referral to Children’s Social Care
within 24 hours if necessary.
If a child is at immediate risk, call 999.
All concerns are recorded confidentially and securely.

10. Handling Allegations Against Staff
Allegations must be reported to the DSL as early as possible.
The DSL must refer to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
within 1 working day.
The staff member may be suspended under investigation.
There must be no internal investigation before consultation with the
LADO.
11. Child Protection, Extremism and Radicalisation
We are committed to the Prevent Duty and will:
Train staff to recognise signs of radicalisation
Refer concerns to the local Prevent team
Promote values of democracy, tolerance, and individual liberty
12. Safeguarding and SEND
Children with SEND are more vulnerable to abuse and may have
communication difficulties.
Individual needs are identified and staff are trained to respond
appropriately.
EHCPs and additional safeguarding plans are respected and implemented.
